Opposition Parties Disrupt Parliament After Prime Minister’s Absence

The House of Representatives meeting was obstructed by opposition parties after Prime Minister Balen Shah did not attend the session.

The disruption occurred during discussions on the government’s annual policy and program presented earlier this week. The Prime Minister was scheduled to respond to questions raised by lawmakers, but his absence led to tensions in the chamber. Instead, Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle was assigned to present the government’s responses.

Following the Prime Minister’s absence, opposition lawmakers began chanting slogans and blocked parliamentary proceedings, accusing the government of violating the agreed agenda and acting under a parliamentary majority.

Speaker Dop Prasad Aryal repeatedly urged members to follow parliamentary rules, but when no agreement was reached, time was given to opposition leader Arjun Narsingh K.C.

Opposition leader K.C. warned that his party would continue to boycott the session until the Prime Minister himself attends Parliament and responds to the policy and program debate.

Similarly, Rastriya Prajatantra Party parliamentary leader Gyanendra Bahadur Shahi stated that the Prime Minister must be present in Parliament to hear the people’s voice and respond directly to national policy commitments, urging the Speaker to enforce his attendance.
