MoU Signed Between NSSSF and Kathmandu University for School Sports Curriculum Development

To enhance the quality of school-level sports and physical education in Nepal, the Nepal School Sports Federation (NSSSF) and the Faculty of Education, Kathmandu University have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the development of a sports curriculum.

The MoU was signed by Vinod Shrestha, President of NSSSF, and Prada Balchandra Luitel, Dean of Kathmandu University. The signing ceremony was attended by Rajkumar Karki, Executive Member of the International School Sport Federation (ISF) and Secretary of NSSSF, among others.

The MoU highlights NSSSF’s commitment and leadership in developing a structured, evidence-based, and nationally relevant sports curriculum. The collaboration aims to strengthen school sports, physical education, and the overall development of children.

The agreement focuses on identifying curriculum requirements, setting priority areas, facilitating access for schools and stakeholders, coordinating the implementation and pilot testing of developed curricula, and providing technical advice based on national school sports practices. NSSSF will also promote the approved curricula through its network.

Kathmandu University’s Faculty of Education will contribute academic and technical expertise in school sports, physical education, sports science, basic coaching principles, sports management, child development, health, fitness, and overall well-being. They will develop research-based materials, ensure academic quality, and align curricula with national and international best practices.

The MoU includes programs for teacher, trainer, and coach capacity building, educational consultancy, expert reviews, research, evaluation, and assessment of the impact of sports education.

A Joint Coordination Committee comprising representatives from both institutions will be formed to plan, implement, monitor, and review the activities under this agreement.

NSSSF President Vinod Shrestha emphasized that curriculum development is the foundation for sustainable, quality, and outcome-oriented school sports, and expressed confidence that the partnership will contribute significantly to the long-term improvement of sports education in Nepal.

The MoU is valid for five years and is considered a major step toward institutional collaboration, educational excellence, and development of sports education in line with national priorities.
