Supreme Court seeks clarification from govt over eviction of settlements

The Supreme Court of Nepal has asked the government to clarify its actions regarding the removal of squatter and unmanaged settlements in the Kathmandu Valley.
A single bench of Justice Sunil Kumar Pokharel, during the preliminary hearing of a writ petition, ordered the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers along with concerned authorities to submit a written response within 15 days.
The court has asked the government to explain whether due legal procedures were followed during the evictions and whether the right to housing was protected. It also sought details on arrangements for rehabilitation, food, healthcare, and education for displaced families.
Stating that a detailed hearing is necessary, the court has summoned both parties for further proceedings.
