Kathmandu Metropolitan Directs Schools Not to Forcefully Cut Students’ Hair

Kathmandu, — Kathmandu Metropolitan City has directed all community and institutional schools to refrain from forcefully cutting students’ hair. The instruction comes after complaints surfaced that some schools had compelled students to shave their heads, citing long hair, which caused psychological distress among the children.
According to the Education Regulations, 2059 (2002), students must not be subjected to physical or mental punishment. The Metropolitan City has urged schools to strictly follow the prescribed code of conduct.
As per the letter issued by Acting Department Chief Keshav Gyawali, schools in Kathmandu are now prohibited from engaging in hair-cutting practices that could cause mental anguish to students.
