‘Scrapping student unions is an effort to secure the future’: PM Balendra Shah

Prime Minister Balendra Shah has described the decision to abolish student organizations and employee trade unions as “an effort to safeguard the future.”

Through social media, he clarified that the move aims to free educational institutions and the bureaucracy from partisan influence and strengthen institutional systems. “This is an attempt to move the country away from party capture toward an institutional path,” he stated.

Shah argued that removing these structures through an ordinance is not targeted against any particular political party, but rather intended to encourage responsible politics among students and a neutral service culture among civil servants.

According to him, the decision is part of a long-term effort to reform the system and ensure good governance.
