Seniority Bypassed in Chief Justice Recommendation, Says Dila Sangraula Panta

Dila Sangraula Panta has criticized the recommendation for the appointment of the Chief Justice, calling it a direct attack on the rule of law.
She stated that recommending a fourth-ranked judge, bypassing the established seniority tradition in the Supreme Court, undermines legal norms. According to her, the decision made by the Constitutional Council led by Prime Minister Balendra Shah reflects extreme arbitrariness.
Sangraula Panta argued that any attempt to influence the judiciary for political convenience or to run it through “settings” cannot be considered constitutional. She also said the move goes against the principle of separation of powers.
Emphasizing the need to protect the dignity of the judiciary, she urged all stakeholders to stand firmly against such actions.
