Criticism Mounts Over Government’s Ordinance Move

Suhang Nembang, a lawmaker from the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist), has strongly criticized the government for introducing an ordinance after suspending the parliamentary session.

Taking to social media, he said the move goes against democratic values and established parliamentary practices.

According to him, the House of Representatives is the supreme platform of elected representatives, where laws should be formulated and amended. Choosing the ordinance route despite having a clear majority reflects a lack of trust in Parliament, he argued.

Targeting the Rastriya Swatantra Party-led government, Nembang warned that such actions could weaken the principles of separation of powers and constitutionalism. He also recalled that under Article 114 of the Constitution, ordinances should only be issued in compelling circumstances, questioning what situation warranted such a step now.

In conclusion, Nembang urged the government to reconsider and withdraw the decision, emphasizing that a majority must be exercised responsibly in a democracy.
