Opposition Parties Urge President Not to Approve Ordinances

Opposition parties, including the main opposition, have urged President Ram Chandra Poudel not to endorse the ordinances recommended by the government.
The government had forwarded proposals for five ordinances, including one related to the Constitutional Council, for presidential approval.
A meeting of opposition parties held at the parliamentary party office in Singha Durbar, chaired by Nepali Congress parliamentary party leader Bhim Raj Aangdembe, decided to formally request the President not to issue the ordinances.
The meeting included leaders and representatives such as Chief Whip Basmana Thapa, UML parliamentary party leader Ram Bahadur Thapa “Badal,” Chief Whip Yuvaraj Dulal of CPN (Maoist Centre), and RPP lawmaker Saraswati Lama.
Speaking after the meeting, Aangdembe said the ordinances were recommended with the intention of bypassing Parliament, and therefore should not be approved by the President.
The opposition parties also demanded the immediate reconvening of both houses of the federal parliament, which had been adjourned earlier.
