UN Urges Restraint Amid Rising Tensions in the Caribbean

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has called for immediate restraint and de-escalation of tensions in the Caribbean region. According to Farhan Haq, the UN Deputy Spokesperson, Guterres is closely monitoring the situation on the ground.
In a daily press briefing, Haq stated that the Secretary-General urged all concerned parties to maintain peace while respecting international law, the UN Charter, and applicable legal frameworks.
The call comes after U.S. President Donald Trump ordered a full blockade on all oil tankers traveling to and from Venezuela. In response, Venezuela condemned the move as a violation of international law and indicated its intention to raise the issue at the United Nations.
