MP Ganesh Karki Criticizes Government Over Ordinance

Ganesh Karki, a lawmaker from the Rastriya Swatantra Party, has strongly expressed dissatisfaction over the ordinance introduced by the government.
Taking to social media, he said that a government with nearly a two-thirds majority bringing an ordinance after halting the parliamentary session is “not an act of bravery.” According to him, while the move may appear constitutional in wording, it goes against the spirit of the constitution.
Karki emphasized that the constitution is not limited to legal text alone but also depends on upholding its democratic values and intent. He suggested that the current decision undermines that spirit.
He also recalled raising similar concerns when the previous government ruled through ordinances, noting that those questions remain equally relevant today. Criticizing the government’s approach, he described it as an attempt to move away from parliamentary processes.
In conclusion, Karki stated that while the use of ordinances may be legally permissible, the timing, context, and intent behind their use ultimately determine whether democratic values are upheld.
