Government Arranges Security for Nepalis Stranded in Middle East Airports

The government has informed that arrangements have been made to ensure the safety of Nepali citizens stranded at various airports in Middle Eastern countries, keeping them secure at their current locations.
A Cabinet meeting held on Sunday at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar concluded that since all airports are currently closed, it is not possible to bring people back to Nepal or send them onward to their destinations. Minister for Foreign Affairs Balanand Sharma stated that, for now, discussions have focused on ensuring their safety wherever they are.
He said the meeting also discussed the difficulties faced by Nepali passengers stuck in transit in different countries. According to him, Nepali ambassadors in the respective countries have been contacted to facilitate onward travel for those who can proceed and to arrange accommodation for those who cannot. Coordination has been made with concerned companies or airlines to take responsibility for their care. He added that, so far, there have been no reports of serious health or security issues among most Nepali citizens.
The Cabinet also discussed the impact of the rising tensions in the Middle East on Nepal and how the country should respond. Sharma said the meeting reviewed the effects on Nepali citizens and explored possible solutions. Issues faced by foreign workers departing from Nepal at the country’s international airport have been addressed through coordination among the Ministries of Labour, Tourism, and Foreign Affairs.
