KP Sharma Oli Pledges to Realize Dream of Domestic Gas Production

CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli has said that if he returns to lead the government, he will fulfill the long-held dream of producing and using domestically sourced gas in Nepal. Sharing his views on social media on Thursday, former Prime Minister Oli committed to completing the gas extraction project in Dailekh.
Emphasizing that development requires vision backed by concrete implementation plans, Oli recalled his previous tenure in government. He noted that during the Indian blockade, the country faced a severe shortage of cooking gas and other essential fuels. At that time, he said, he had assured the people that Nepal would extract its own gas and eventually supply it directly to households through pipelines to keep public morale high.
Oli claimed that during his government’s term, significant progress was made on feasibility studies and gas extraction work in Dailekh. He stated that the presence of around 112 billion cubic meters of methane gas had been confirmed and that sample testing had also been successful.
According to Oli, plans for commercial production had already been initiated last Mangsir, but the project stalled after his government left office in Bhadra. He asserted that once his party returns to power, the halted work will be revived on a priority basis, ultimately realizing the vision of using Nepal’s own gas production.
