Power Outages and Flight Cancellations Hit the U.S. Amid Major Snowstorm

Kathmandu — A severe snowstorm in the United States has caused extensive damage to power grids, leaving over 1 million people without electricity.
More than 10,000 flights have been canceled as the storm continues, bringing heavy snowfall, blizzards, and strong winds. The National Weather Service (NWS) has reported that two-thirds of the eastern region is affected and has urged citizens to stay alert.
Tennessee has experienced the highest number of power outages, with Mississippi, Texas, Louisiana, Kentucky, Georgia, Virginia, and Alabama also impacted. Earlier forecasts had predicted heavy snow from the Ohio Valley to the Northeast, and significant accumulation from the lower Mississippi Valley to the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast regions.
“This storm is spreading across many parts of the country,” said NWS meteorologist Allison Santorelli.
U.S. President Donald Trump described the storm as “historic” and approved a federal emergency declaration on Saturday. About 20 states, including the District of Columbia, have declared weather emergencies.
“We are in constant contact with all states in the path of this storm. Stay safe and warm,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Officials warned that daily life could be affected for up to a week after the storm, with extremely cold temperatures expected. The snowstorm was caused by Arctic cold air and low-pressure systems moving into the U.S.
