Speaker Ghimire Holds Consultations with Political Parties on Contemporary Politics

Kathmandu– Speaker Devraj Ghimire held consultations with leaders of various political parties today regarding contemporary political developments and the ongoing transition in Nepal. The meeting took place at the Speaker’s Office in Singha Durbar, with party representatives sharing their views on behalf of their respective organizations.
Emphasizing the crucial role of political parties in protecting the Constitution and promoting democracy, Speaker Ghimire called for cooperation among all parties to uphold these principles.
Following the meeting, Shyam Kumar Ghimire, Chief Whip of the Nepali Congress in the dissolved House of Representatives, reiterated that his party, as a democratic force, would not step back from participating in the upcoming elections. “The Supreme Court is the final authority on the constitutionality of the House dissolution. In the current context, we will not retreat from the election process,” he said.
Mahesh Kumar Bartaula, CPN (UML) Chief Whip in the dissolved parliament, noted that a writ challenging the dissolution had already been filed in the Supreme Court. He expressed hope that the court would address the matter and stated that the party believes restoring parliament would help streamline the political process.
Meanwhile, Rajendra Prasad Pandey of the CPN (Unified Socialist) said his party would participate in the elections provided the government ensures a favorable environment for conducting them.
Most of the chief whips and whips of the parties represented in the dissolved House of Representatives attended the consultation, reflecting a shared interest in navigating Nepal’s current political landscape responsibly.
