Gagan Thapa’s message on Buddha Jayanti and Ubhauli

Gagan Thapa, President of the Nepali Congress, has said that rising above pain and violence and choosing the path of compassion and harmony is the true way to honor Gautam Buddha.

Extending his wishes on the occasion of Buddha Jayanti and Ubhauli, he expressed hope that on this special day, people let go of anger and resentment and light the lamp of peace in their hearts.

In a social media message, Thapa wrote:
“Rising above suffering and violence and choosing the path of compassion and goodwill is the true respect to Buddha. On this special day of Buddha Jayanti, may everyone abandon anger and hatred, and may the light of peace shine in every heart.”

He also extended “Sewangli” greetings and best wishes to all on the occasion of Ubhauli, the great festival of the nature-worshipping Kirat community.

Thapa added that the harmony between Buddha’s message of peace and Nepal’s indigenous tradition of reverence for nature represents the country’s true identity and beauty. He expressed hope that Nepal’s culture, unity, and social harmony remain strong and enduring.
