Case Filed Against Durga Prasai Under Cybercrime Charges

A case has been filed against medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai at the Kathmandu District Court under the Electronic Transactions Act.
According to the case filed at the Kathmandu District Court, the Office of the Attorney General has sought action under Section 47 of the Electronic Transactions Act, 2063 (2006).
Under this law, if found guilty, the accused can face a fine of up to NPR 100,000, imprisonment of up to five years, or both.
According to the charge sheet, Prasai made misleading and provocative statements about the upcoming elections through the social media platform Facebook.
He is accused of attempting to incite hostility by making remarks such as “If elections are held, the country will split.” Evidence of the use of violent language has also been presented.
The prosecution has also demanded additional punishment and compensation, stating that such activities have been repeated multiple times.
