Indefinite Curfew Imposed in Birgunj Amid Security Concerns

The local administration in Birgunj Metropolitan City, Parsa, has imposed an indefinite curfew starting Monday morning due to a serious deterioration in the security situation. The District Administration Office, Parsa, announced that the curfew will be in effect from 9:45 a.m. across the city’s main areas until further notice.

According to the order issued by Chief District Officer Bhola Dahal, all public movement and gatherings are strictly prohibited within the designated curfew zones.

The curfew area has been clearly demarcated as follows:

East: Bypass Road

West: Sirsiya River

North: Gandak Chowk

South: Entire area within Shankaracharya Gate near the Nepal–India border

Under Section 6 (Ka) of the Local Administration Act, 2028, no one is allowed to move freely, hold rallies, assemblies, meetings, or engage in encirclement or similar activities within these boundaries.

However, the administration has allowed exceptions for humanitarian and essential services. Ambulances, fire trucks, hearse vehicles, and health workers will be permitted to operate without restriction. Similarly, vehicles of journalists, students and staff traveling for pre-scheduled university examinations, tourists, and diplomatic missions will receive facilitation from security personnel, according to the official statement.
