Election Campaign Period for House of Representatives Begins

For the upcoming House of Representatives election scheduled on Falgun 21, 2083 BS, political parties and candidates can officially start campaigning from today.
According to the election rules, campaign activities such as rallies, public gatherings, corner meetings, and publication or broadcast of election-related materials in media are permitted only from 15 days before the voting day.
Therefore, from Falgun 4, 2083 BS to midnight of Falgun 18, 2083 BS, parties and candidates are allowed to conduct election campaigns, fully adhering to the Election Code of Conduct. The Election Commission has confirmed that all political parties, candidates, and other stakeholders can formally request votes from the electorate during this period.
Campaigns can be carried out through newspapers, online media advertisements, rallies, and corner meetings. Candidates are required to submit a detailed account of expenses incurred for stage setups for public gatherings to the respective election office, either directly or through a representative.
The Election Commission has deployed mechanisms to monitor and enforce the Code of Conduct. Parties and candidates may be issued notices seeking clarifications if there are violations, and legal action will be taken to prevent escalation.
The Code of Conduct was formulated through extensive consultations with political parties and stakeholders, and all parties have committed to fully complying with it. Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari emphasized that the commission follows a zero-tolerance policy toward violations.
If violations occur, the commission may issue warnings, impose fines, or even cancel candidacy based on the evidence and severity of the offense. During the election period, spreading false information, disinformation, or malicious statements on social media and online platforms for partisan political purposes is strictly prohibited.
