Energy Minister Kulman Ghising resigns

Kathmandu-Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Kulman Ghising has resigned from his post.

Minister Ghising reached the Prime Minister’s official residence, Baluwatar, and submitted his resignation before Prime Minister Sushila Karki this evening.

Ghising, who had also been taking charge of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transportation and Urban Development, was appointed as the minister on 15 September 2025.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Karki extended gratefulness for providing able leadership to the three crucial ministries in the past three and a half months, the PM secretariat shared.

“You have performed as a minister of the incumbent government under very adverse conditions, contributing greatly to the country”, Prime Minister Karki said, “You worked untiringly round the clock. You reached various parts of the country and remained equally active during times of disaster. You personally went to disaster-affected areas and worked there and also took strict measures against irregularities in the development and construction projects. The country will remember your work and the people will evaluate it”.

Minister Ghising expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for providing the opportunity to work during the interim period.

Ghising resigned after questions were raised over his affiliation to a political party, preparing to contest the upcoming March 5 elections. It may be noted that an understanding has been reached between the Ujjyalo Party Nepal, which Ghising oversees, and the Rastriya Swatantra Party for a potential merger. According to the understanding, he is set to become the vice president of Rastriya Swatantra Party.
