5 killed, 10 injured in Russia strike on Ukrainian city: official

Five people were killed and ten others injured in a Russian strike on Ukraine’s southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia late Thursday, local authorities reported Friday.

The Russian military targeted the Shevchenkivskyi district of Zaporizhzhia with a high-explosive aerial bomb at 10:00 p.m. (2000 GMT), according to Ivan Fedorov, the region’s governor.

Shopping facilities and apartment buildings were damaged in the attack, Fedorov wrote on Telegram.

Utility services are working to mitigate the consequences of the strike. Emergency shelters have been set up in the city to provide heat, water and lighting to those affected.
