Health Ministry Urges Hospitals to Align Salaries with Government Standards

Kathmandu, – The Ministry of Health and Population has directed health institutions and hospitals to ensure that salaries, services, and facilities for staff align with government standards.
Ministry spokesperson Dr. Prakash Budhathoki stated that a circular had already been issued to all government hospitals, medical colleges, and community and private hospitals, instructing them to provide nurses and health workers with salaries and incentives equivalent to government rates. After reports of non-compliance in some institutions, the Ministry has reissued the directive.
Nurses at Manipal Teaching Hospital in Pokhara have expressed frustration, demanding salaries as per the government standard. Dr. Budhathoki added that the Ministry has also instructed hospitals to provide additional allowances for staff working extra hours.
The circular further reminded institutions not to retain employees’ original educational certificates, avoid recruiting staff on daily wages, and adopt a banking system for salary disbursement.
