Monsoon disaster: 48 dead, six missing, 28 injured

Kathmandu, Oct 6: The number of people who died in the recent monsoon disaster has reached 48. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) stated this in its recently updated data this evening.
NDRRMA spokesperson Shanti Mahat said that 39 people have died due to landslides, including 37 in Ilam, and one each in Panchthar and Kavre. She added that six people died in floods — one each in Panchthar, Khotang, Morang, Sunsari, Udayapur and Rautahat while two people died due to lightning, and one person died in Udayapur due to continuous rain.
Similarly, so far, six people have gone missing. Among those missing, four in Rasuwa and one in Ilam went missing in the flood, and one in Ilam has gone missing in a landslide.
So far, 28 people have been injured in those disaster events. Among the injured, 10 were injured due to landslide in Ilam, two in Panchthar, two in Lalitpur, three in Bhojpur, three in Khotang, and one each in Udayapur, Makawanpur, Taplejung, Dhankuta, and Bara districts.
Similarly, due to continuous rainfall, one person each has been injured in Dhankuta and Bara, and one person has been injured in Khotang due to flooding. According to the information received, 18 people have been rescued by helicopter so far.
