Over 9,000 Landless Families Receive Land Ownership Certificates

The government has distributed land ownership certificates (Lalpurja) to 9,012 landless squatters and unmanaged settlers across the country.

The distribution was carried out based on applications collected through the Land Problem Solution Commission. After recommendations from district-level committees, the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation reviewed and approved the issuance of the certificates.

According to commission expert member Tek Bahadur Shah, the process involved coordination among local governments, wards, and district committees. Data collection and verification were completed through a single-window system before distributing the certificates.

Priority was given to “landless Dalits” during the process. Landless squatters are defined as families who do not own land anywhere in the country and are unable to acquire land through their own means.

Similarly, “unmanaged settlers” refer to those who may own land elsewhere but have been living for decades in another location without legal ownership registration in their name.

The commission has clarified that settlements built by encroaching on public land or cultural heritage sites will not be legalized.
