Oli Announces Mobilization of ‘National Volunteer Force’ to Curb Anarchy

KP Sharma Oli, Chairperson of the Communist Party of Nepal (UML), has stated that a “National Volunteer Force” will be mobilized to counter those who create unrest and attack state institutions.

Addressing the Koshi Province-level Unified Command announcement program of the National Volunteer Force in Jhapa on Monday, the former Prime Minister warned that anarchic activities taking advantage of what he described as weaknesses in state mechanisms would no longer be tolerated.

Oli clarified that the force is not a temporary or election-focused organization. “This is not a force formed just for elections; it is permanent. It will work in a disciplined manner to protect the democratic system and promote peace, good governance, and development in the country,” he said.

Stating that the UML always prioritizes the nation, he added that the force would help implement the party’s policies and objectives.

During his speech, Oli said the force would support the state in controlling activities such as arson in front of the Parliament building, attacks on the Supreme Court and police offices, and attempts to assault police officers and seize their weapons.

“We have seen that relying solely on the state mechanism was not enough to safeguard rights,” Oli said. “The Parliament building was set on fire, courts and police offices were attacked. Those who beat police and snatched weapons—such terrorist criminals—will now be controlled by the National Volunteer Force. Now that the National Force has been formed, nothing will be allowed to burn anywhere.”

He claimed that the force has been established to help maintain law and order across the country, including Koshi Province, and to assist the police and the government.

Oli also emphasized that while the organization would not violate anyone’s rights, it would not spare those who engage in violent or anarchic activities.
