Supreme Court Orders Release of Durga Prasai

The Supreme Court of Nepal has ordered the release of Durga Prasai, coordinator of the “Nation, Nationality, Religion, Culture and Citizen Protection Grand Campaign.”
A joint bench of Justices Manoj Kumar Sharma and Meghraj Pokharel issued the order on Tuesday, directing authorities to release him, stating that his detention was unlawful.
Last week, Uma Prasai had filed a habeas corpus petition at the Supreme Court, claiming that Durga Prasai was being held illegally.
Earlier on Monday, a bench of Justices Nahakul Subedi and Meghraj Pokharel had ordered the Election Commission’s original file—related to its decision to instruct police to take action—to be submitted to the court for review.
