Former PM Madhav Kumar Nepal Appeals for Restraint Amid Communal Tensions in Gaur

Former Prime Minister and co-coordinator of the Nepal Communist Party, Madhav Kumar Nepal, has expressed concern over the recent incidents in Gaur Municipality–6, Rautahat.

In a statement issued today, co-coordinator Nepal urged both Hindu and Muslim communities to exercise restraint to resolve the ongoing dispute. Emphasizing religious tolerance, he highlighted the importance of respecting each other’s faith, culture, and festivals, and stressed that communal violence is unacceptable under any circumstances.

He described Hindus and Muslims as complementary communities and called for the protection of local citizens, urging the government to ensure their safety and security. Speaking from his experience representing Rautahat in the federal parliament, Nepal emphasized that the current situation can only be resolved through dialogue and mutual understanding.

Nepal, who is also a candidate for the House of Representatives from Rautahat–1, mentioned that he is coordinating with the Home Ministry to normalize the curfew imposed after rising incidents of vandalism, arson, and stone-throwing. The curfew was declared after a minor dispute between the two communities three days ago escalated into communal violence.
