President Poudel Invites Japanese Business Community to Explore Investment Opportunities in Nepal

Tokyo, Japan – On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Japan, President Ramchandra Poudel called upon the Japanese business community to explore investment and trade opportunities in Nepal. His office stated that the Nepalese government is committed to providing full support for Japanese businesses seeking to invest or operate in Nepal.
Addressing an interactive session with Japanese business leaders in Tokyo, President Poudel emphasized Nepal’s desire to build close partnerships with the Japanese private sector. “We have created a stable macroeconomic environment with attractive returns on investment, smooth procedures, and safeguards for capital and profits. The Nepalese government is fully committed to supporting, facilitating, and protecting foreign investments,” he said.
Highlighting the long-standing cultural ties between the two nations, he noted that the teachings of Gautam Buddha form a shared heritage. “Buddha said—the victory of peace is one where no one loses,” he remarked.
President Poudel encouraged Japanese investors to invest boldly in Nepal, particularly in agriculture, water resources, and tourism, aiming for mutual benefit. “Investing in Nepal brings wealth and dharma,” he said, adding that Nepal-Japan relations have been marked by goodwill, friendship, and cooperation, and that active Japanese participation would strengthen trade and investment links.
He also praised Japan for its decades-long support to Nepal as a reliable development partner at both governmental and people-to-people levels. President Poudel expressed confidence that by the end of this year, Nepal would transition from being a least developed country to a developing country, and by 2030, become a middle-income nation.
He highlighted Nepal’s liberal economic policies and its openness to foreign investment across sectors including production, hydropower, tourism, services, IT, mining, and agriculture-based industries. “The Nepal Investment Board offers a one-stop service for major investors. Independent evaluations by the IMF, World Bank, and leading global rating agencies have confirmed Nepal as one of the most favorable business environments in South Asia,” he added. President Poudel also emphasized Nepal’s strategic location between the rising economies of India and China as a significant advantage for investors.
The event was attended by Nepal’s Charge d’Affaires to Japan, Hariharakant Poudel, Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Amrit Bahadur Rai, and Joint Secretary Bhrigu Dhungana, who presented investment prospects in Nepal. Japanese business representatives expressed excitement at the wide range of investment opportunities and indicated that the event would help open doors for greater Japanese investment in Nepal.
