Prachanda claims: Nepali Communist Party likely to emerge as the leading party in upcoming elections

Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, coordinator of the Nepali Communist Party, has claimed that his party has a strong possibility of becoming the leading party in the upcoming elections. Addressing the National Assembly Parliamentary Party meeting at Singha Durbar today, he stated that the party has united 20 smaller parties into one and carefully selected candidates to represent all factions.

Candidate selection was based on public support, competence, and image, with special attention also given to proportional representation candidates. Prachanda expressed confidence that the party’s candidates will achieve strong results in the elections.

He highlighted that the party’s proactive role during the Gen Z movement and subsequent events has positively shaped its national and international image. He noted that citizens perceive the Nepali Communist Party and its leadership as distinct among the three major parties.

Prachanda also observed that the initial enthusiasm for the Rastriya Swatantra Party (Raswapa) has gradually weakened, with their candidates’ activities having less influence on the public.

Following former Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai’s withdrawal in Gorkha, the victory of NCP candidate Lekhnath Nyaupane is now nearly assured, according to Prachanda. He added that dialogues with Dr. Bhattarai are expected to improve relations between him and the party.

The meeting also appointed Beduram Bhusal as leader of the National Assembly Parliamentary Party, Madan Kumari Shah ‘Garima’ as chief whip, and Ganga Belbase as whip.
