Nepal on High Alert After Nipah Virus Detected in India

Kathmandu — Following confirmation of Nipah virus infection in West Bengal, India, Nepal has adopted high alert measures to prevent the virus from spreading into the country. The Ministry of Health and Population has initiated monitoring of travelers at all air and land entry points.

According to Ministry spokesperson Dr. Prakash Budhathoki, health desks set up at airports and border points are screening travelers for symptoms, and those showing signs of infection are being placed under observation.

Dr. Budhathoki stated, “After Nipah virus appeared in India, we have started monitoring all individuals entering Nepal. People suspected of infection will also be sent to designated hospitals for treatment.”

Nipah virus can spread through bats, pigs, or infected persons, so preventive measures have been strengthened for these transmission sources. Public awareness campaigns, quarantine protocols, and cautionary measures are being emphasized to prevent contact with potentially infected individuals.
