Election Commission Reviews Proportional Representation Candidate Lists Ahead of February 21 Polls

The Election Commission is scrutinizing the closed lists of proportional representation candidates submitted by political parties for the upcoming House of Representatives election on Falgun 21, identifying errors and discrepancies.
After reviewing the submitted lists and holding discussions with party representatives, the Commission plans to formally request corrected lists on Poush 20.
Assistant Spokesperson of the Commission, Kulbahadur Jisi, stated that the lists are being checked for compliance with inclusive group (cluster) requirements and other details. Party representatives are being called for discussions regarding discrepancies. On Wednesday, discussions were held with representatives of 12 parties, and meetings with another 12 parties are scheduled for today.
On Poush 13 and 14, a total of 64 political parties submitted their closed lists. Of these, only 22 parties submitted candidates for all 110 positions. On average, each electoral symbol had about 60 candidates nominated, while 10 parties submitted lists for a minimum of 11 positions. Ten parties have a single electoral symbol.
Although 93 parties applied to participate in this proportional system, only 64 submitted their closed lists. The Commission will give parties time to correct their lists between Poush 21 and 27. The finalized lists will be verified between Poush 28 and Magh 3, with the final publication scheduled for Magh 20.
The Election Commission has appointed experts in data, technology, and legal affairs at the Office of the Election Officer to oversee this process.
