Dense Fog Disrupts Daily Life in Janakpur

Janakpur, Madhesh Province, Dense fog and mist have been affecting daily life in Janakpur, the capital of Madhesh Province, in recent days. This seasonal problem, common in the Terai region during winter, has once again created challenges for residents.

Morning visibility has dropped significantly, slowing down vehicular traffic. Drivers report difficulty navigating even with headlights on, raising the risk of accidents. Fog has also disrupted flights at Janakpur Airport, adding to travel inconveniences. Earlier, flights at other Terai airports, including Bhairahawa and Simara, were temporarily suspended due to poor weather conditions.

The fog has affected routine activities, with markets, schools, and offices opening late in the mornings. Hospitals report an increase in patients with respiratory issues, particularly among the elderly and children, as cold weather worsens health conditions.

The Department of Meteorology has warned that fog and mist are likely to persist in the Terai region for several more days. Authorities have advised residents to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel.

Local residents have expressed frustration at the difficulties caused by fog and cold. Business activities have slowed down, and people are hesitant to venture outdoors. Many have started lighting fires at streets and intersections to keep warm, and some have requested temporary public holidays to cope with the harsh weather.

Residents have also urged Janakpur Metropolitan City to provide support during the cold spell, suggesting arrangements such as heating stations or controlled fire areas in public spaces to help the community manage the winter conditions.
