Tension in Bara: Prime Minister Karki Calls National Security Council Meeting

Simra, Bara, — Tensions in Bara’s Simra area, which began on Wednesday ahead of the planned participation of UML leaders General Secretary Shankar Pokharel and Mahesh Basnet in a local event, have yet to fully subside. In response, Prime Minister Sushila Karki has convened a meeting of the National Security Council.
According to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, the meeting is scheduled for Thursday at 2:30 PM at the Council Secretariat in Singha Durbar.
The unrest in Simra escalated on Wednesday when Gen-Z youth clashed at the local airport, causing damage to property. A curfew was subsequently imposed and later extended until 8 PM on Thursday. With the situation still tense, authorities have reimposed the curfew to prevent further disturbances.
Earlier, the National Security Committee, in a meeting last Friday, had decided to send a letter to the Ministry of Defense regarding the deployment of the army for election security. Sources indicate that the National Security Council meeting on Thursday will also deliberate on matters concerning potential army deployment in the region.
