SONSIK Membership: Last Day to Register for Nepali Students in Korea

Today, July 25th, 2025, is the last date for Nepali students in Korea to submit their membership form for the Society of Nepali Students in Korea (SONSIK). As per the organization’s constitution, all Nepali students in Korea are considered members, with the society further classifying memberships into three distinct categories: Regular, Affiliated, and Honorary.
Regular Membership The backbone of SONSIK, Regular Members are Nepali students enrolled in various university-level programs in Korea, including undergraduate, graduate, vocational, language, and research studies. To become a Regular Member, students must register by paying an annual membership fee of 10,000 KRW and providing their profiles. Regular Members are the only ones with voting rights and eligibility to hold positions in the SONSIK Executive Committee, allowing them to actively shape the organization’s direction and initiatives.
Affiliated Membership Nepali individuals affiliated with educational and research institutes in Korea, but not qualifying for Regular Membership, can become Affiliated Members. This category also includes Regular Members who have ceased to be students. While Affiliated Members enjoy most privileges of Regular Members, they do not have voting rights or the ability to hold office. However, they can contribute in an advisory capacity to the society’s activities.
Honorary Membership SONSIK may confer the prestigious Honorary Membership title to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional academic achievements and made meritorious contributions to Nepal. This recognition serves to honor and involve distinguished personalities in the society’s endeavors.

SONSIK’s core objectives are to facilitate exchange of views, promote mutual cooperation, and strengthen bilateral relations between Korea and Nepal. The organization also aims to provide information on study and scholarship opportunities in Korea, as well as create a lasting alumni network of Nepali graduates.
The General Secretary highlighted that SONSIK serves as an esteemed platform dedicated to inspiring and guiding Nepalese students in their academic journeys. He believes that through SONSIK, students can create a significant difference in their lives and communities. The General Secretary warmly welcomes all students to join SONSIK, emphasizing the importance of collective effort in making the world a better place through social work.
In a related statement, SONAM Sherpa, Vice President of SONSIK, noted the organization’s strong relationships with students, universities, alumni, and the Embassy of Nepal in Seoul. He emphasized that these connections are vital for fostering a supportive environment where students can thrive both academically and socially. SONSIK aims to empower students by providing resources, mentorship, and opportunities for community engagement, ensuring that they are well-equipped to contribute positively to society and their future endeavors.
With the July 25th, 2025 deadline fast approaching, Nepali students in Korea are encouraged to seize this opportunity and register as members of SONSIK. By joining this vibrant community, they can actively contribute to the society’s growth and impact, ultimately benefiting themselves, their peers, and the broader Nepali-Korean academic and professional landscape.
