Prime Minister Balendra Shah extends wishes on Buddha Jayanti

Balendra Shah has extended his best wishes to all on the occasion of the 2570th Buddha Jayanti.

Sharing a message on the social media platform X, he wrote:
“The real revolution begins not with ‘Ka’ but with ‘Gya’, and that ‘Gya’ is knowledge.”

Quoting the teachings of Gautama Buddha, he said:
“Buddha said, ‘There is suffering, there is a cause of suffering, there is an end to suffering, and there is a path to end suffering.’ The path shown by Buddha is the path to overcome suffering. Darkness is merely the absence of light; when a ray of light appears, darkness disappears on its own. Our journey should be in search of such light of knowledge, towards solving problems.”

He further added:
“On the birth anniversary of Buddha, the timeless pioneer of peace, I wish for world peace. Blessed is our land Nepal where Buddha was born—it has always stood for non-violence and peace. The true revolution begins not with ‘Ka’ but with ‘Gya’, and that ‘Gya’ is knowledge. On this auspicious occasion of Buddha Jayanti, heartfelt wisdom-filled greetings to all. Appo Deepo Bhava (Be a light unto yourself).”

Siddhartha Gautama, widely known as a messenger of peace, is being honored on his 2570th birth anniversary. The day is observed with worship, reverence, and teachings, marking Buddha—considered the ninth incarnation of Vishnu in Hindu tradition.

Buddha Jayanti is celebrated every year on the full moon day of the month of Baisakh (Baishakh Shukla Purnima) to commemorate his contribution to world peace.

As Buddha’s birth, enlightenment, and Mahaparinirvana (passing) are all believed to have occurred on this same day, Buddhists in Nepal and around the world observe it with deep devotion and respect.
