Trump Issues Strong Warning to Reopen Hormuz, Tensions Escalate

Donald Trump has issued a strong ultimatum to Iran to immediately reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

He became angered following Iran’s claim that it had shot down a U.S. aircraft after an American pilot rescue mission.

Trump warned that if the waterway is not reopened by Tuesday, the U.S. could launch heavy strikes on Iran’s infrastructure. The U.S. side, however, stated that the aircraft was destroyed by its own forces, while Iran claimed it had downed a C-130 Hercules and a UH-60 Black Hawk.

Rejecting the warning, Iran said that if attacks escalate, it could also shut down other maritime routes.

Amid rising tensions, Wang Yi and Sergey Lavrov have called for a ceasefire.
