Gen-Z Movement Case: Former Kathmandu CDO Chhabilal Rijal Arrested

Chhabilal Rijal, former Chief District Officer (CDO) of Kathmandu, has been arrested.
He was taken into custody from his residence in Baneshwor on Tuesday morning. According to Ishwor Karki, chief of the Kathmandu Valley Police Office, a team from the Crime Investigation Office Kathmandu Valley carried out the arrest.
Rijal was detained as part of the implementation of the investigation report related to the Gen-Z protests that took place on Bhadra 23–24. Earlier, K. P. Sharma Oli and Ramesh Lekhak had also been arrested in connection with the same case.
The report had recommended legal action against then officials under Section 182 of the National Penal Code, which criminalizes negligence leading to loss of life. The provision carries a penalty of up to three years in prison and a fine of up to NPR 30,000.
