Department Warns Against Artificial Gas Shortage Amid High Demand

The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection (Nepal) has warned industries and distributors not to create an artificial shortage of cooking gas amid rising demand.
The department urged stakeholders to ensure smooth supply and refrain from hoarding or illegal activities.
During a monitoring operation, more than 6,000 gas cylinders were found stored at the warehouse of Shreeram Gas Industry Pvt. Ltd., leading to a fine of NRs 300,000.
Authorities have also directed the company to immediately distribute all the stored cylinders to the market.
The department stated that distribution is being coordinated with the Nepal Oil Corporation, and the situation is expected to normalize soon after the implementation of the half-cylinder distribution system.
Warning of strict action against black marketing, the department has also urged the public to report such activities via hotline 1137.
