Kathmandu Metropolitan Develops Integrated Attendance System for Community Schools

Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has developed its own integrated attendance system to track daily attendance of teachers, staff, and students in community schools. The Education Department and the Information Technology Department collaborated to create this system, linking all community schools under a unified platform.

All schools have been provided with usernames and passwords. Teachers and staff from schools such as Jankalyan, Tangal, Geetamata, Gyanodaya, Tarun, Ratnrajya, Padmodaya, Janpath, and Bishwo Niketan have already been registered in the system through data entry and face recognition. Meanwhile, student records are being entered, and the face recognition process is ongoing, according to Acting Chief of the Education Department, Keshav Prasad Gyawali.

The internal staff of KMC developed the system, reducing dependency on external consultants. After implementation, school administrative and accounting staff have been trained to operate the system. Training includes data entry, updates, and report generation, which will now be managed locally by schools. However, real-time monitoring will remain accessible through KMC’s central system.

Anirudra Nepal, head of the IT Department, stated, “Developing our own system is the biggest achievement. We no longer have to rely on external consultants for service.”

Once data is entered, it will be integrated with the Sub-National Treasury Regulatory Application (SUTRA). IT Officer Engineer Madhav Khanal added that the system will also include individual profiles, allowing students to view their own information. Additionally, the system is being enhanced to send updates to guardians regarding students’ attendance.

This initiative is expected to streamline school administration, improve accuracy in record-keeping, and ensure transparency in student and staff attendance.
