Shree Panchami Celebrated Across Nepal with Saraswati Worship

Today, Nepal celebrates Shree Panchami, also known as Vasant Panchami, with devotees performing worship and rituals dedicated to Goddess Saraswati, the deity of knowledge, wisdom, arts, and music.
Temples across the country have seen a surge of visitors. Notable sites include Saraswati Kund in Lele, Saraswati Khel in Thimi, Neel Saraswati in Vishalnagar, Aryaghat Saraswati Temple, Maitidevi, and Swayambhu, among others, where devotees have gathered since early morning for prayers and offerings.
As part of the celebrations, a Vasant Shravan ceremony is scheduled at Nasalchok, Hanumandhoka Palace, which will be attended by the President, Vice President, Prime Minister, and other dignitaries.
Shree Panchami is traditionally linked to the promotion of education, intelligence, arts, and music. Historically observed as Saraswati Jayanti, the festival has been celebrated since the Vedic era to honor Goddess Saraswati.
On this day, it is customary to initiate children into education, and some follow the ritual of piercing a child’s nose or ears. Schools across Nepal have also organized Saraswati Puja programs.
It is considered auspicious to begin music training on this day. Books, musical instruments, and art supplies are revered as symbolic representations of Goddess Saraswati during the worship.
