Newly Elected Nepali Congress Committee to Hold Meeting at Central Office on Friday

The newly elected central committee members of Nepali Congress, chosen through the party’s special general convention, are set to convene at the Central Office in Sanepa on Friday.
Party General Secretary Pradeep Paudel informed media that, “We will be going to Sanepa tomorrow at 1 PM.”
The new committee, led by Gagan Thapa, was elected on Poush 30 during the special convention. Although Thapa has assumed the presidency, the first and second committee meetings were held at a hotel, including the parliamentary board meeting to select candidates for the upcoming House of Representatives election on Fagun 21.
Party spokesperson Devaraj Chalise stated, “Tomorrow, the central committee meeting will be held at the central office.” However, as many leaders are currently outside Kathmandu, only those available in the capital are expected to attend.
Sources indicate that the meeting is expected to announce Gagan Thapa as the party’s prime ministerial candidate. Other parties have already announced their candidates, with CP Sharma Oli for UML and Balendra Shah for Rastriya Swatantra Party.
During the special convention, some leaders including Thapa and Bishwoprakash Sharma had differences with the Sher Bahadur Deuba faction, who had rejected the convention. Nevertheless, candidates ran using tickets signed by Thapa.
The Deuba faction, led by acting president Purn Bahadur Khadka, filed a writ in the Supreme Court seeking recognition for their claim, but the court refused to issue an interim order.
