55 Candidates File for House of Representatives Seats in Kanchanpur

Kanchanpur — A total of 55 candidates have filed their nominations for the three constituencies of Kanchanpur in the upcoming House of Representatives election. Among them, 11 are independent candidates, while 44 represent various political parties.
According to the District Election Office, six women have filed their nominations across all three constituencies. In Constituency No. 1, Bina Magar (Nepali Communist Party), Sita Bik (Aam Janata Party), and independent candidates Rupadevi Bist and Manjudevi Sunar are in the race. In Constituency No. 2, Premwati Rana of the Nagrik Unmukti Party has filed her candidacy, while in Constituency No. 3, Laxmi Kumari Bist of the Aam Aadmi Party is contesting.
Most of the major parties are fielding familiar faces, though some new candidates have emerged. In Constituency No. 1, Bina Magar (Nepali Communist Party) is a former representative. Taralama Tamang (UML) is also a former member of the dissolved House. Gopi Prasad Upadhyay (Congress) and Janak Singh Dhami (Rastriya Swatantra Party) are newcomers.
In Constituency No. 2, Narayan Prakash (NP) Saud from Congress is a familiar figure. New faces include Bachan Bahadur Singh (UML), Madhav Prasad Pant (Nepali Communist Party), and Deepak Bohora (Rastriya Swatantra Party).
In Constituency No. 3, Hariprasad Bohora (Congress) is contesting for the first time. Deepak Prakash Bhatt (UML) was elected in 2074 BS, while Man Bahadur Sunar (Nepali Communist Party) has previously served in the Sudurpaschim Provincial Assembly.
The District Election Office reports that Constituency No. 1 has 19 candidates including 4 independents, Constituency No. 2 also has 19 candidates including 4 independents, and Constituency No. 3 has 17 candidates including 3 independents.
Congress Fields Bohora Instead of Lekhak
Influential Congress leader and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak did not contest this time. Despite being elected multiple times from Constituency No. 3, Congress has chosen Hariprasad Bohora as their candidate.
Lekhak had previously been elected directly in 2056, 2070, and 2079 BS, and through proportional representation in 2064 BS. He has also served as a minister multiple times. Recently, during the Gen Z movement, his tenure as Home Minister drew some controversies.
Lekhak’s exclusion has caused dissatisfaction in the Dodhara Chandani area of Mahakalipar within his constituency.
