Cold grips Valley as mercury dips to 3 degrees

Kathmandu- Asignificant cold wave continues to grip Nepal as temperatures across the country see a steady decline. The capital city Kathmandu has recorded a minimum temperature of 3 degrees for the third consecutive day this Thursday, marking a persistent chilly spell for the Valley.

According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD), the minimum temperature in Kathmandu has remained stagnant at 3 degrees since Tuesday. Meteorologists note that this consistent drop has significantly intensified the cold felt by residents during the early morning and evening hours.

While the capital faces a steady chill, other parts of the country are experiencing more extreme conditions. Jumla records the coldest place in the country, with the mercury plunging to a freezing minus 8.1 degrees today.

In contrast, Simara in Bara recorded the highest minimum temperature in the country today at 9.8 degrees.

The MFD’s latest data suggests that the cold will likely persist across the country. Thick fog and haze have been reported in the Tarai region, affecting visibility and daily life, while mountainous districts continue to face minus zero degree temperatures.

Weather officials advise the public, especially children and the elderly, to take necessary precautions against the rising cold as January typically marks the peak of the winter season in Nepal.
