Agreement Reached After Armed Police Shooting Kills Local Resident in Sunsari

Following the death of a local resident due to gunfire by the Armed Police Force, the administration has pledged to investigate the incident, bringing tensions in the area under control.

A five-point agreement was reached between the administration and the victim’s family during discussions held at the District Administration Office in Inaruwa. Sunsari Police confirmed that the situation in the district has stabilized following the agreement.

According to Koshi Rural Municipality Deputy Chairperson Anitadevi Yadav, the agreement includes proper management of the deceased’s body and measures to end tensions.

The incident occurred at the NepalIndia border, where 45-year-old Vijay Sah of Koshi Rural Municipality1 was shot by the Armed Police around 1:10 a.m. on Wednesday. The shooting had sparked unrest in the Laukahi market area, during which police deployed tear gas to control the situation.

A seven-member investigation committee has been formed under the coordination of the Assistant Chief District Officer, including representatives from Nepal Police and the District Office of National Investigation. The committee has been given seven days to submit its report.

The agreement also stipulates that if the investigation finds negligence by security officials, the Home Ministry will recommend appropriate relief and compensation. Additionally, the Chief District Officer will facilitate employment for the deceased’s wife, and the APF’s No. 1 Barah Battalion will assist the deceased’s son if he wishes to join the armed forces.

Finally, it was agreed that the deceased’s body will be handed over to Nepal Police for post-mortem examination, after which the family can conduct the cremation.
