First-Ever Nepalese Mega-Festival in Busan

South Korea

Busan witnessed its first large-scale Nepalese cultural celebration as the Nepal Grand Festival unfolded at Tongmyong University, organized by the Nepalese Community in Busan (NCB) in collaboration with Sonsik.

The vibrant festival drew a strong turnout, especially Nepalese students residing in the city, and showcased Nepal’s rich culture through traditional food, games, and student-led performances.

The event highlighted NCB’s mission to support Nepalese residents, promote cultural exchange, and foster community connections. “Today, Busan felt like home for thousands of Nepalese studying and working here,” said Ashok Acharya, President of NCB. “Our goal was simple—share our culture through food, games, and friendship—and build a stronger, more connected community.”

Tongmyong University welcomed the celebration as a milestone in its international engagement efforts. “Events like the Nepal Grand Festival enrich campus life and strengthen Busan’s global diversity,” said Ahn Yo Han, Dean of International Affairs, Tongmyong University.

The festival was attended by distinguished guests, including the Dean of Tongmyong University, the Director of Busan Immigration, the Deputy General of the Busan Global City Foundation, a representative of the Busan Police Department, and CEOs of Dagachi and Woon Coffee, reflecting growing collaboration between the Nepalese community and local institutions.

Throughout the day, visitors savored authentic Nepalese cuisine, participated in traditional games, and experienced cultural performances organized by students. The event promoted mutual understanding and support among international students, civic leaders, and local partners.

Kiran Siwal, President of Sonsik, said, “Sonsik is honored to partner with NCB. The festival demonstrates how collaboration can turn a vision into a citywide celebration of diversity.”

The Nepal Grand Festival concluded with a heartfelt message of thanks to Tongmyong University for providing the venue and logistical support, and to local partners and volunteers whose contributions made the event possible.
